Andies Race report and 1st place finish!
August 21st, 2011 at Harris Lake County Park
This was the third race in the local TORC series here in the Triangle Area of NC. The morning started off cool, but the heat & humidity set in quickly - just in time to start the race (around 9am). They started Cat 1 & Cat 2 women together - so there were 7 of us at the starting line. This race had some much stiffer competition for me, but I managed to keep my cool and pull out a 1st place finish in Cat 2 Women under 40.. of course representing our newly sponsored amateur racing team - TEAM FLYING DOG.
My Results:
Lap 1 - 7 miles - 34:33
Lap 2 - 7 miles - 36:02
Total time - 1:10:35

Team Flying Dog, North Carolina - Huck-a-Buck Race Results
The NC chapter of Team Flying Dog had a great showing at the 11th annual, Happy Fun Racing "Huck-a-Buck" XC race held at Lake Crabtree Park in Cary, NC on Sunday 7/24/11. It was a typical NC summer day, hot & humid with temperatures hitting near 100 degrees by the time the last groups were going out. The race course was fast, flowy and dusty! The promoters of the race advertised a 5 mile circuit but in actuality it was 7, all single track.
First up for Team Flying Dog was Andie Lesondak. She competed in Cat2 Women's 19-39 which contained a total of 6 racers. To make it even more challenging, the race promoters combined the Expert class with the Cat2 class Andie was racing in since the expert class only had one racer. Andie set some blazing lap times keeping in contact with the other top contenders in her class. As you can see by the category results, she grabbed 3rd place a mere 20 seconds away from 2nd and 2.5 minutes off the expert in her class.

Next up was Mike Lesondak who was racing Single Speed. The SS group set off at the hottest part of the day, 12pm. The competition was stiff in the SS class, but Mike held his own. In his words, "I passed more than passed me", good feeling indeed, even if the ones he passed were not in his category. He stated he felt strong on lap one, hit the wall on lap two and pulled it back together for lap 3. Mike placed 8th out of 15 keeping in close contact with the field. Mike said he would like to point out that Andie turned in faster lap times than him. He said he is very proud of Andie and is glad he doesnt have to compete against her on race day.

Had a blast. Finished 4th in the 40 + sport group without a chain for 3/4 of the run. Enjoying the Good Life :D
More to come on the UCI world cup race soon. I did include the end of Aaron Gwin's Gold medal run in this one.
